    Description

    This 1950s era Vintage Russian Orthodox Madonna and Child has been hand worked in sheet copper with great details and craftmanship. The face images are painted and inserted into the finished work. It has a brass frame with 4 corner angels, and the entire piece has been encased in a wooden box frame with glass front which I guess was for preservation. The back of the frame served as a place for prayers to be placed, there are many personal notes still on it, and there were some paper prayer notes taped on the back also but they were so old and fragile they fell apart.
    Please forgive the quality of the pics, I could not bring myself to remove the box frame but taking pics with the glass proved to be very challenging! The "jewels" in the crowns are intact but most likely are glass. Other than the deterioration of the wood, this icon is in excellent condition.  It hung in my grandparents' home in PA and was important to them. They passed many years ago, but I wanted to offer it here for anyone interested in preserving some mementos of the Orthodox faith.
