    Description

Offered here are roughouts for carving "Bellamy" style eagles.  The Bellamy style was made famous by John Bellamy in ME during the mid 1800's .
They are made for hanging on the wall. There is space for a flag under the head, between the wings.
    Each roughout i
s different to some extent including size.  They are offered in Butternut and Basswood. The Basswood is best painted, the Butternut is best left natural with perhaps the flag  painted in an antique manner.
When you select a specific roughout from the drop down list titled "Variations"  you will see the actual picture of the roughout you will be getting.
Roughouts 1A  ,1 A2,  2B1 and 2A2 are each made of 2 pieces of wood as the heads are a separate piece that can be screwed on during carving process and glued on when ready. The wings/flag  piece is cut from a piece that is 1 1/8 inch thick. The head is cut from a piece 2 inch thick
Roughout  2B2 is made of 4 pieces with the 3rd and 4th pieces being glued on to the wing tops to give extra thickness to the wings so the wings are about 2 1/8 inch thick at the top and taper down to the bottom. You can see
    in the pictures
    for
    2B2
how much deeper that makes the wings.
The head is cut from a piece 2 inch thick The pictured 2B2 is the blank you will get today.
I have drilled and screwed the head on to the 1A, and both 2Bs roughouts to facilitate  the roughing out. It will ship with the head off and I suggest  you start your carving process with the head off.  The screws are included when I ship your roughout.
I include a CD that goes in your computer with images of various Bellamy eagles that my students have done  from these roughouts as well as others.  It also comes with a paper pattern which provides a simple feather layout. Other feather layouts can be seen on the  eagles on the CD.
I do have a few books on carving Bellamy style eagles that while not have this particular pattern in them, but give guidance on carving Bellamy style eagles which would be very useful to you. Message me for more info and a  quote on the book and rounghout combination
Specifics of each roughout as follows:
    1A1
    is a  Butternut
roughout  (no worm holes)  about 28-29  inches wide  wing tip to wing tip and  about 7-8 inches high from bottom of flag to top of wings
and wings are a single thickness (1 1/8")
. I will soon have this listed with pictures
    1A2 is a Wormy Butternut
roughout  about 28-29  inches wide  wing tip to wing tip and  about 9  inches high from bottom of flag to top of wings
and wings are a single thickness (1 1/8")
    .
    The 1A2 pictures
are the actual roughout you will get. I have included a closeup picture of the left wing and flag area where the worm holes are located.  There is only  a few  hole on the flag, several on the left wing.  These are worm holes only, no worms!  Adds character and authentic old world charm.
    2A2 is a Basswood
roughout ( I am still working on this, will have listed with pictures soon)  roughout about 27 inches wide  wing tip to wing tip and about 5 1/2 to 6  inches high from bottom of flag to top of wings
and wings are a single thickness (1 1/8")
    .
    T
    2B2 is a Basswood
roughout  about 28-29  inches wide  wing tip to wing tip and  7- 8  inches high from bottom of flag to top of wings
and wing tops are double thick.
    The 2B2 pictures
are representative of the roughout you will get as
I sell these locally as well.
If you want a picture of the actual rough out you will get msg me before ordering and await a reply.
    New Smaller Bellamy Eagle
Roughout is  Basswood  about 21 inch wide wing tip to wing tip, about 4.5 inches high and 3/4 inch thick. The head is also 3/4 inch thick and will be glued on when you get it. The pictures are representative
of the roughout you will get as
I sell these locally as well.
If you want a picture of the actual rough out you will get msg me before ordering and await a reply.
Each  roughout has different grain patterns and "character",
    particularly
those in Butternut. Plus they are all different in shape as I rough out with hand operated rotary tools - no computer control here.
Make your selection at the drop down list titled "Variations" near the top of this page next to the picture - it will then show you  a representation of the roughout you will get.
If you want more than one or a different eagle pattern message me.
If you need tools for these I recommend a 3/4 inch wide  #3 gouge and a V tool, both of which I can provide - just request a quote before ordering a roughout and I can provide as 1 package at no additional shipping cost.
