    Description

    ANTIQUE OR VINTAGE EASTERN CATHOLIC CHURCH, BYZANTINE RITE, EPITAPHIOS (PLASHANITSA) SHROUD
    Hand painted canvas of Christ with four Cherubim, embroidered, with golden metallic thread border and fringe
    The Plashanitsa is used on the last two days of Holy Week as part of the ceremonies marking the death and resurrection of Christ. It is placed on the Altar table.
    Age - mid 20th Century
    Size - approximately 54"H x 33"W, without fringe
    Condition - stable used condition, see no issues with canvas painting, upper right corner cut off, with wear to fabric and fringe, at one time had a plastic covering over canvas that has been cut off
